Every summer, we get the privilege of welcoming the next generation of builders to Kent Companies. This year, 23 interns joined us across Michigan, Texas, and the Southeast, stepping directly into the fast-paced worlds of Kent Concrete, Kent Underlayments, and Kent Facilities.
“Our team is 'all-in' across every office and division,” says Chris Lapekas, Talent Manager. “They believe in providing students the exposure and mentorship they need to rise because they know the future of this industry depends on it.”
At Kent, interns are treated like the professionals they’re becoming—planning and executing large concrete placements, coordinating with GCs, leading safety walks, estimating with preconstruction, and tracking production with project engineers. It’s real work with real expectations, and that’s exactly what this industry demands.
This summer’s group included first-timers, returners, and students referred by trusted university partners. Each one left a mark on our teams and projects, and we’re proud of what they accomplished.
“We take the internship experience seriously because we’ve seen what happens when it’s done right,” Lapekas adds. “Interns leave with sharper communication skills, stronger leadership instincts, and a clear understanding of what it takes to lead on a jobsite. Then, they come back year after year ready for more.”
As Kent Companies has expanded, so has our investment in talent. With every new office and division, we’ve scaled our internship program, adding more opportunities and mentors along the way. What began in a single region has grown into a nationally recognized, field-tested program that serves as a true launchpad for careers in construction.
