Q&A: Leading in Commercial & Retail Construction— How Kent Concrete’s Texas Teams Power Growth Across Multiple Sectors

Texas hasn’t just grown over the past decade, it has surged. And Kent Concrete has been a driving force behind that momentum, with concrete construction for logistics, distribution, and industrial growth across the state.

Industry growth attracts population growth, which in turn creates demand for retail and commercial construction.  As thousands of new homes rise in rapidly expanding markets, Kent Concrete is delivering the commercial and retail infrastructure that anchors communities and fuels long-term growth. From large-format leaders like Home Depot and H‑E‑B to the centers that define everyday life, Kent’s Texas teams are setting the standard for how development keeps pace with, and accelerates, the state’s evolution.

Marketing Manager Monica Kioshi sat down with Central Texas Preconstruction Manager Denis Robertson, Houston Division Manager Adrian Rendon, and DFW Preconstruction Manager Erasmo Joaquin to discuss how the market is evolving, and how Kent’s people and experience are helping developers keep pace.

Q1: We’ve seen a massive residential boom across Texas. How is that shifting the demand for commercial and retail space?

Denis Robertson, Central Texas: Texas is on the map as a major logistics hub and ideal location for corporate headquarters. That industry growth set up a population boom that is creating demand for additional types of construction. Developers are fast-tracking mixed-use and retail projects to meet that demand. Retail centers anchor new master-planned communities. The goal is to give people access to what they need where they live and work. We’ve delivered significant tilt-wall concrete projects across  Austin, Round Rock, and Georgetown, and we’re strategically positioned to build the retail giants that follow.

Adrian Rendon, Houston: Texas growth doesn’t stop at housing. Every new community needs infrastructure, and retail is part of that. You’ll see one large anchor tenant, like Kroger or Walmart, and then an entire ecosystem grows around it. Kent’s role is to deliver those foundational pieces with the same precision and pace we’re known for in the logistics and industrial space.

Q2: How is Kent adapting to the variety of projects across logistics, distribution and retail sectors?

Erasmo Joaquin, Dallas-Fort Worth: DFW is ranked number 1 in the United States for retail construction, and about 85% of the space under construction is already pre-leased. That includes large-scale builds like IKEA as well as mixed-use plazas. Our approach doesn’t change. We mobilize crews fast, keep productivity high, and deliver consistent finish quality whether it’s a 400,000 SF big-box store or 40,000 SF of paving.”

Denis Robertson, Central Texas: In Central Texas, you’ll see more high-end finishes and integrated designs, creating retail that doubles as community space. We’re currently working on The District in Round Rock, which is a 66-acre mixed-use development designed to create a walkable, urban-style destination. The challenge is always balancing design intent with production efficiency, and that’s something our teams do incredibly well.

Q3: Kent Concrete is known for manpower and speed. How does that translate into retail work that demands more finesse and curb appeal?

Erasmo Joaquin, Dallas Fort-Worth: Our systems are built for precision. On one H-E-B site, we poured nearly 50,000 SF every other day while keeping finish tolerances tight enough to meet strict floor-flatness standards. It’s a great example of how scale and craftsmanship can coexist.

Denis Robertson, Central Texas: That’s where our Four Hallmarks — Safety, Productivity, Quality, and Customer Service — really shine. Productivity gives us the horsepower to stay ahead of schedule; Quality is what customers see when they walk the finished space. Every pour, every edge, every panel matters when the final product is a storefront instead of a warehouse.

Q4: Looking ahead, what’s next for commercial and retail growth in your regions — and how is Kent Concrete preparing?

Erasmo Joaquin, Dallas Fort-Worth: In DFW, developers are reimagining suburban spaces, turning what used to be empty fields into full community corridors. We’re already working on several multi-tenant retail centers and grocery anchors that connect directly to new housing tracts. The demand is steady, and we’re helping contractors keep up.

Adrian Rendon, Houston: We’re seeing the same trend with a different rhythm. Retail is expanding outward — Katy, Cypress, The Woodlands — where growth is red-hot. With multiple big box centers under construction, we’re scaling manpower and equipment to serve logistics, industrial, commercial, and retail across the region. Our statewide footprint gives us the ability to deliver anywhere, with the same standards our customers trust.

From tilt-panel commercial builds to retail plazas, and foundations to finished storefronts, Texas is still growing.  Connect with our Texas teams to start your next commercial or retail project.
