In the world of healthcare construction, there’s no room for error. That’s why Munson Healthcare trusted Kent Concrete to deliver foundational work for the Otsego Memorial Hospital ICU and Birthing Center Addition in Traverse City, Michigan.
This two-story expansion demanded precision, safety, and seamless coordination. Our crews worked within an active hospital environment, where maintaining uninterrupted access to emergency rooms, ICUs, and surgical suites was non-negotiable. We adapted pour sequencing and site access to meet strict safety and compliance standards—delivering results without disrupting care.
Specialized Healthcare Construction Expertise
Our scope included 240 CY of poured concrete for foundations, 160 CY for a 12,075 SF slab on grade, 110 CY for a 17,695 SF slab on plank, and 45 CY for a 3,130 SF slab on deck. Each element was carefully scheduled to minimize disruption and meet the unique demands of a healthcare environment.
The project began in late February and faced an unexpected obstacle—a historic ice storm that brought a weeklong construction halt. Despite power outages and fuel shortages, Kent's scope was completed on time in early April, thanks to our proactive planning and nearly complete progress before the storm hit.
