A Summer at ConRAC

A Summer at ConRAC: Our Journey of Growth and Achievement

This summer was one for the books, marked by milestones, firsts, and immense growth. Our West Michigan concrete division took on its largest project to date—the Consolidated Rent-a-Car (ConRAC) Facility at the Gerald R. Ford International Airport.

The ConRAC project will revolutionize the airport experience by bringing all rental car agencies under one roof, seamlessly connecting them to the main terminal. The project also prioritizes efficiency and sustainability, with plans for two parking garages and a quick turnaround building, all designed to streamline operations and reduce carbon emissions.

Throughout the summer, the Kent Concrete team was at the heart of this massive undertaking, pouring concrete and setting the foundations that will shape the future of the airport. But it wasn’t just our seasoned professionals making an impact; our interns were right there alongside them, gaining invaluable experience.

Ian White and Ethan Grover, both students at Ferris State University and Kent Concrete interns, couldn’t have asked for a better summer assignment. Over their 12-week internship, they immersed themselves in every aspect of the project, from project management and safety to hands-on work in the field. They played a critical role in pouring over 8,000 square feet of slab on grade at the Quick Turn Around building and constructing a 100-foot crash wall at the Ready Return West building.

This summer was more than just a learning experience for Ian and Ethan—it was a chance to see a project of this scale evolve. We’re proud of the impact they’ve made and the growth they’ve experienced, just as we’re proud of the pivotal role Kent Concrete is playing in this historic project. As the summer comes to a close, we look forward to completing the next milestone at ConRAC and the impact it will have on the Gerald R. Ford International Airport and the Greater Grand Rapids community.
